Darren and Mike first met in the year 2004 when they were both members of the paranormal research
society Avalon Skies. Both Darren and Mike eventually left Avalon Skies, but remained friends.

In 2006 Darren was invited to investigate a disturbing poltergeist case at a house in South Shields
and asked Mike if he’d like to take part. Mike agreed, and the rest, as they say, is history.

As the investigation progressed, and it became clear that the case was truly an extraordinary one,
It was evident to the researchers that the events should really be documented in a book - this really
was a story that needed to be told to the world.  

Work on the manuscript started well before the investigation had concluded. Every day, as more
extraordinary events took place, the authors documented them meticulously.  A copy of the manuscript
was then passed to the family concerned, giving them the opportunity to suggest any changes or
point out any inaccuracies.  Apart from one, small technical error, which the authors corrected,
they were happy with the way in which the book portrayed the events that had taken place in their home.

In the spring of 2007, the authors approached Sutton Publishing/The History Press with their book
concept and were asked to submit their manuscript. Within days they received word to say that the
company would like to publish it.

Editing the final manuscript proved to be an exhausting process. The authors had to trawl through
hours of videotaped evidence and audio recordings to ensure that the complex historical timeline of
events had been accurately represented.  Numerous recorded interviews with the principal experients
also proved  valuable, and the authors found it interesting to see how their perspectives had changed
both during the investigation and after it. The authors found it touching to hear the heartfelt thanks of
the experients being expressed, but, for their part, they were simply glad to have been able to help.
